Alpha 3.99.0 What's new and where are we going?

Hello everyone!

In this blog post I want to introduce a new update, only for Windows for now, but soon on other platforms (give me some time to build and upload). This update is a general overhaul of the existing game, which is evolving every years since 2015. However the content havn't changed a lot. Today I can share more news about content and features.

What's news in the 3.99.0 update?

  • OpenXR support: The game works on every VR headsets that supports OpenXR. That means Steam, Oculus and Windows MR
  • Graphics improvements: Realtime lighting, Screenspace Reflections and Screen space Ambient Occlusion
  • Input: New agnostic Input System that works great on all platforms
  • Code: Cleanup for what is coming next

But hey!! Is the game still working on the Oculus Quest? It's still working but need some optimizations. The Quest 2 will become the main mobile VR target because of its better GPU. But don't worry Quest 1 support is still here.

What am I working on?

The code cleanup was mandatory to add more features. The first one is a new level, maybe two! And also new enemies. The next level is built to be explored both horizontally and vertically, exactly like existing ones, but bigger. The idea is to build something like levels in Forsaken, which is a strong inspiration for me since the begining of this project (in 2015 remember).

The second level will take place outdoor... YES ON THE MARS SURFACE! Are we going to see Curiosity or Perseverance? I don't know :P

I removed some years ago the multiplayer split screen feature because it was a pain to maintain. I don't know how, but I would like to add a multiplayer component again. Maybe an online one with Death match, capture the flat, etc.. Or maybe a split screen again.. Tell me what you want. I think (because I've implemented both) that online multiplayer is more suited for this game.

Have fun,

Yannick.
